A Bit About MeI've been writing for as long as I can remember and when I'm not writing, I'm usually planning what I'll be writing next or revising a past piece, or sending works out. Great writers from the past have changed my life with their style and their characters, particularly the late John Gardner. Most recently, I've been reading Jacqueline Woodson and Margaret Atwood, authors whose courage and range amaze me. I've won several awards for my writing, including Washington College's Sophie Kerr Prize and the Governor's Award for Excellence in the novel (Maryland).
I teach English at Northeast State Community College in East Tennessee. I have an M.F.A. from George Mason, an M.A. from the Univ. of Maryland, and a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America, where I learned Anglo Saxon so I could read Beowulf in the original in order to write about Gardner's Grendel. One of my dearest friends in the world is my Australian Cattle Dog, Kismo Africa Blue, aka "Blue Dog."
